Did you know your smile could be in danger this baseball season? Well, it’s true. If you don’t take good care of your teeth and gums, they can suffer the consequences and you could experience one or more dental issues. Our dentist, Dr. Ned Todorov, encourages you to keep your smile in tip-top shape this season by protecting it. To help you do so, he recommends doing the following things:
-Don’t chew tobacco: Tobacco is very dangerous for your teeth and gums. In fact, it can promote serious dental issues like tooth and root decay, gum disease and oral cancer. It can even affect the appearance of the smile by staining the teeth and it can affect the breath by making it extremely odorous. It’s best to avoid tobacco use altogether.
-Don’t chew sunflower seeds: When you crack the shells of the seeds, an unnatural pressure is added to the teeth. This can wear down the enamel, resulting in enamel loss and even cause tooth cracks. If you’re going to chew seeds, make sure they are shell-less.
-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard can help you prevent oral injuries when the ball or other hard, forceful objects hit the mouth and jaw. In fact, it can help you avoid knocked-out teeth, broken teeth and more.
